How the age effect your fitness level

Lungs capacity slowly starts to decrease from the age of 20.

By the age of 40, some people are already experiencing breathlessness This is because the muscle and the rib cage which control breathing become stiff.

The reduction in aerobic capacity leads:

  • To decrease the ability to perform body work
  • increase in incidence of coronary artery disease and other conditions.

A study from Saltin 1966-2009, showed that 20 years old boys who stayed in bed for 3 weeks lost 27% VO2max.

That’s exactly what you lose by aging from 20-50.

This means if you stay 3 weeks in bed it makes you 30 years older.
